Last weeks Missing Competitions
Some of you may have noticed that some competitions disappeared from last weeks update.
We were contacted by a publisher who didn't wish to have their competitions displayed on our site.
As a result competitions from the following publications will no longer be available on our site.
Obviously we wouldn't take this step lightly but we don't want solicitors darkening our doorstep! Of course we'd obviously remind them of the No Purchase Necessary rules regarding competitions. More of that below for anyone unaware of the rules.
Anyway we found this step by the publisher in question to be quite strange. The whole point of competitions is publicity, by stopping us publicising their competitions they have lost out on some free advertising.
As we see it the more people that enter competitions the better for the companies concerned. Prizes are donated to magazines in order to promote a new product and increase sales. As any comper knows, competitions are also run to build a database of people interested in the products in question so that mailshots etc can be sent out.
By stopping us sharing this information the publishers are letting their readers, advertisers and shareholders down.
Apologies for the small rant folks, but we feel a little picked on this week :(
Anyway .. now seems as good a time as any to point out the No Purchase Necessary rules which apply to ALL competitions which do not involve an element of skill.
So, should you be in your local shop, newsagent, supermarket or similar place that sells magazines or newspapers; you can browse the many publications on offer and note down any competition you find. You are not required to buy the item, and can enter the competitions. Any publications not allowing this method of entry could be found to be running an illegal lottery.
Just a little something to bear in mind next time you're doing the weekly shop.
This rule applies to competitions you see on any item.
Good Luck with your comping!!
Rebecca.
